Seller Says…

What we love about Aurora is that it is a small friendly town with home-town values and a laid back lifestyle. If you love seafood, you can buy fresh fish, shrimp, and crabs through local fishermen. The annual Aurora Fossil Festival draws crowds for the 5K run, parade, crafts, music and fireworks. Fossil enthusiasts from all over visit the Aurora Fossil Museum to see fossils of ancient marine animals found in the area. You can even try your hand at digging for sharks teeth and your own Miocene age fossils in the outdoor pit.

Aurora’s location is ideal if you like small town living but still want access to bigger areas. New Bern, Greenville, and Washington can all be driven to in an hour or less. In less than 90 minutes you can drive to Atlantic Beach, NC and The Crystal Coast for fun at the ocean. Raleigh is only a 2 ½ hr drive.

The local restaurants are Wayside Restaurant and Lyle & Shirley’s Restaurant. These are places where the waitresses know you by name and automatically bring your tea or beverage of choice. Charlie’s Restaurant in Bayboro has great seafood at very reasonable prices.

Oriental, North Carolina, “the sailing capital of N.C.”, is only a short drive away, where you can enjoy the sailboats and commercial trawlers at Oriental Harbor Marina. Stop in for coffee and a pastry at The Bean try the fresh seafood at Toucan Grill & Fresh Bar or M & Ms Cafe or the best pizza in the area at The Silos Restaurant. Browse the shops and art galleries as you stroll through this quaint town. We often trailer our boat over to Oriental, put in and take a day cruise over to Beaufort, North Carolina or Cape Lookout National Seashore and watch the wild horses.

If you like to golf there are two golf courses within easy driving distance – Cypress Landing Golf Club in Chocowinity, North Carolina and Minnesott Golf & Country Club.

If you love to hunt there are plenty of opportunities whether you hunt for deer, bear, wild turkeys, doves, or ducks. As we live in the country, our “neighborhood” consists of others along the street and waterway who also value country living and being on the water. It is a peaceful and quiet place and a great respite to come home to after a busy day.

We do our grocery shopping in Grantsboro, North Carolina (only a short drive away) at Walmart, Food Lion (Grantsboro, NC), and Grantsboro Piggly Wiggly. However, there is a Family Dollar and Dollar General in town for quick pick ups of things you need.

We were drawn to the property because we love our privacy. 23 acres on the water is a rare find. The property is surrounded by woods and water. If you don’t want to live elbow to elbow with someone else, this is a great piece of property.

The land directly across the water is owned by Potash Corp (formerly Texas Gulf and PCS Phosphate). It is reclaimed land after mining, and therefore no building will ever be erected on this land. This ensures even more privacy for the property.

Not living so close to neighbors means you can set up your own shooting range and fire off a few rounds. Or, walk outside your home and practice your golf swing. You won’t be bothering anyone either way.

This unique piece of property is a nature lover’s dream. We can sit on the pier and watch the dolphins come in to feed. Deer, fox, and raccoons can be seen in the field. There are all kinds of water fowl and water birds: ducks, pelicans, cormorants, osprey, herons and kingfisher. Turtles lay their eggs in the yard during the spring and sun themselves on logs in the canal during the summer. Eagles soar overhead.
Stargazers will love the brilliance of the stars and planets, witnessing meteor showers and viewing the fly over of the International Space Station.
Aurora is a waterfront community and the property is perfect for those who love the outdoors and anything connected with nature and water.
If fishing is your hobby you will love this property. Fish right off the pier or use the boat ramp on the property to quickly get out on the creek. Fish for trout, flounder, puppy drum, or white perch. Just a short boat drive and you’re on the Pamlico River and ready to fish for large red drum.
Boaters of all kinds will love their many options. Enjoy the tranquility of the creeks or head into the Pamlico River. Boat up to Historic Bath, home of Blackbeard the Pirate, and grab snacks at the “Quarterdeck Marina”; head over to Belhaven; take a day trip to Washington and eat at one of the many restaurants near the dock; or take the intracoastal waterway out to the Neuse River. Whatever kind of watercraft you have – motor boat, jet ski, sail boat or kayak, there is plenty of fun on the water for everyone. If you love to garden, there is plenty of sunny space and rich dark soil to have your own home garden. A horse lover could easily create a small horse farm in what we call the pecan field. With 23 acres the only limit is your imagination.
